Day 2: Kigali City Tour – Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

This morning, take a tour of the city and pay a sad visit to the Genocide Memorial Site to learn how the country overcome its past and is today a testament to the resilience of humanity. After lunch at a neighbouring restaurant, make your way to Volcanoes National Park, which is perched atop a vast volcanic massif that comprises three extinct and six active volcanoes. More than 400 mountain gorillas in critical endangered status, or over half of all wild gorilla populations globally, live in the park. Gorillas in the Mist, a film and book that follows primatologist Dian Fossey’s ground-breaking study, was inspired by it as well.

Later, take a guided canoe excursion along the Mukungwa River, which flows softly through the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes, and unwind and cool off. Admire striking vistas of the towering volcanic cones in the distance, observe a variety of birds, keep an eye out for otters, and converse with amiable locals as you travel. As the trip comes to an end, pull up on a bank and enjoy a cool sundowner while holding your favourite beverage and watching the sun set over the gorgeous peaks.

Accommodation: One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 3: First Gorilla Trekking Experience.

Start your walk through the park’s thick foliage after breakfast in an attempt to spot mountain gorilla families. Your skilled trackers determine the gorillas’ whereabouts by using their understanding of their routines. Once you’ve spotted the gorillas, you get to spend an amazing hour with them while they go about their normal lives—eating, playing, sleeping, and caring for their young. After lunch, make your way back to your lodge to spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Accommodation:  One&Only Gorilla’s Nest, Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4: Second Gorilla Trekking Experience.

Go on a new walk in the morning to see a different family group of gorillas and wonder at their recognisable behaviours. These amazing primates are truly amazing. After lunch at your resort, make your way back to Kigali. Head to the airport in preparation for your flight out.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch).
