There, you will meet up with first-rate local trackers and guides who will give you a detailed orientation on proper gorilla trekking etiquette. The walk into the forest starts after the session.
A rather demanding exercise that might last the entire morning or all day while you search for the gorilla families is a full day hike around the park with your guide. After escorting you to the gorillas’ previous sighting location, the guide will start tracking them there. Trekking can take anything from one to six hours, with the possibility of climbing to altitudes of no more than 7,500 feet. The ground is uneven and occasionally very muddy. Finding the gorillas is sometimes compared to discovering a hidden natural gem in the mist, so once they are found, all the pains and exhaustion of the walk are forgotten.
There is an hourly viewing limit and a maximum of 8 people per group. It is requested of visitors to keep a 7-meter (22-foot) distance between them and the gorillas. It is advised to have lots of storage space and cameras. It is advisable that you wear waterproof gear and provide appropriate protection for your camera equipment because it can rain at any time in the forest. Please be aware that plastic bags, such as shopping or carrier bags are prohibited in Rwanda. Visitors with a cold, the flu, or any other contagious ailment are not permitted to visit the gorillas, nor are children under the age of fifteen.
