Our 10 Days Around Rwanda Wildlife Safari is designed to give you a taste of the traditional Rwandan experience, starting with a visit to the Savannah National Park, which is home to a wide variety of birds and animals. Next, we’ll head to the Volcanoes National Park’s jungles to witness the critically endangered mountain gorilla species. Finally, you will visit the monkeys at Nyungwe Forest National Park and the Canopy Walk.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Transfer to Akagera National Park

When you arrive at Kigali International Airport, a representative from our company will greet you and arrange for your transfer to Akagera National Park. The drive to the park takes about two hours, with a stop for a photo opportunity en route. You will have lunch at the lodge and spend the afternoon and evening relaxing on the veranda with a view of Lake Ihema dinner, before spending the night at Rusizi Tented Camp.

Day 2: Game Drive – Boat Cruise along Lake Ihema

After waking up early for an early breakfast, we will head to the park for risers. There, we hope to see animals such as giraffes, buffaloes, and elephants. Zebras have been a popular sight in the park since the introduction of lions. In the afternoon, we will head back to the lodge for lunch and take a boat ride around Lake Ihema, where we hope to see a lot of water birds and animals like crocodiles and hippos that stay overnight at Rusizi Tented Camp.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Following a morning breakfast, you will start your journey to the land of mountain gorillas, the drive to Musanze from Akagera is scenic with views, and enjoy the landscape through the beautiful towns and villages, you arrive at the park in time for lunch and an afternoon visit to the Ibyi’wacu community, they will entertain you with the Rwandan traditional dances and drumming, you will have the chance to participate in the dances, dinner and staying overnight at Singita Kwitonda.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Following breakfast, you’ll head to the park headquarters for an early briefing before heading into the dense forest in search of the primate species. Depending on how far the mountain gorillas have moved, the trek may take two or more hours, and you’ll be surprised by how much you can see along the trail paths. Once you meet the primates, you can spend an hour with them before returning to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at Singita Kwitonda.

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast early in the morning, you will be driven to the One and Only Nyungwe Lodge, where you will spend the night after arriving in time for lunch and a leisurely dinner. The drive to the park takes about six hours, with a stopover in Nyanza province to tour the old palace of the King. The architecture of the buildings surrounding the park is distinctive and presents a traditional setup.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking – Canopy Walk

After an early breakfast, we will head to the Uwinka Visitor Centre for a briefing from park rangers. Later in the day, you will head into the forest in groups for the day’s activities. It takes two to three hours to find the special species because they like to nest in tree canopies and make loud noises, making it easier to hear them from a distance. Your guide will tell you a lot about the forest and chimpanzees in general. While you’re there, keep an eye out for other types of primates, such as blue-tailed, black and white colobus, and l’hoest, to name a few. Come back for lunch, then spend the afternoon doing a canopywalk across the suspended bridges above the tree canopies, experiencing the avian species at supper, and spending the night at One and Only Nyungwe Lodge.

Day 7: Black and White Colobus Monkey Tracking

After enjoying coffee for morning tea, we will head to the park headquarters to see the black and white colobus monkeys up close. It’s an incredible experience, with thousands of white creatures tucked away in black and white. The tracking route overlooks the tea estate, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. We’ll then head back to One and Only Nyugwe Lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 8: Transfer to Lake Kivu

You will travel through the picturesque rolling hills of the countryside on this day as you make your way to Lake Kivu. The lake and the Democratic Republic of the Congo share borders. You’ll arrive in time for a hearty meal and an afternoon boat ride around Lake Kivu. Take in the stunning sunset and an island tour around the lake; the Nyungwe Forest National Park and the Virunga Forest are visible from the lake. You will spend the night at Lake Kivu Serena Lodge after returning for dinner.

Day 9: Transfer to Kigali Capital City

After breakfast in the morning, you will travel to Kigali. You will arrive in time for an experience of Kigali at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a resting place for thousands of Rwandans who lost their lives during the genocide that occurred in 1994. You will then go to the museum to see historical and artistic representations of Rwandan artefacts, visit the local market, have dinner, and spend the night at the Kigali Serena Hotel.

Day 10: Departure

We will have breakfast after which transfer to the Kigali International Airport for your flight back home.
